The Wayfarer’s Decalogue, A Book To Be You

The Wayfarer's Decalogue, a book to be you

El Decalogue of the Wayfarer is one of the most inspiring books to come out of a Spanish pen.

Its author is Manuel Pimentel, a former labor minister who left his post because he did not agree with the policy of his government, and a true guru of human relations.

Pimentel captured in his book a beautiful decalogue that invites human beings to be themselves, following their wishes and dreams, and always looking for a way to improve themselves to live life in depth while finding the long-awaited happiness.

Next, we are going to learn a little more about the teachings we learned by reading Manuel Pimentel’s fantastic book, El Decalogue del Caminante . There are ten ideas that can make your life happier and fuller :

  • First: The Wayfarer’s Decalogue invites us to have dreams, ideals and goals. They will be the ones who mark our destiny and will give reason for being to the efforts made in the search for the vital path of each one.

  • Second: It is important to set achievable goals, otherwise, we will be crushed by them, and they could become a martyrdom full of frustrations. On the other hand, they should not be so short either as they could allow us accommodation and boredom.

  • Third: Do not allow happiness to come only when you have achieved your goals. You must enjoy each stage, taking advantage of every detail that you will find day by day.

  • Fourth: Once you reach a goal, don’t stop and look for a new one. A life without a project has no north to walk towards. Always look for other challenges that give your life meaning.

  • Fifth: Always well attached to reality, trust your talent and let yourself be carried away by your dreams. Haste is not good counselor, only the step by step, overcoming obstacles and looking towards the hopeful horizon will allow your course to be always firm and clear. Also, it is important not to take shortcuts. Go your way with confidence in what you do.

  • Sixth: Another beautiful teaching that we learn in the Wayfarer’s Decalogue is related to the overview. Your course has to integrate the hard moments with the happy ones. Don’t isolate bad experiences or get caught up in them. Create your own sea with everything you have lived and learn from the past so that your future is more hopeful.

  • Seventh: If you run into another walker, he will recognize in you everything that you project. You may think you are one way, but they will identify your true nature by your deeds and actions. Stop making excuses and be responsible with your way of proceeding.

  • Eighth: Be consistent. Your person and your character must always go together so that you feel better. Otherwise, the road will be much more arduous and difficult.

  • Ninth: Your actions are what write the work of your life. Your character and you are the same. So, evolve according to your ideals and dreams and let the protagonist of your existence be the one who marks the time of the narrative.

  • Tenth: Remember at all times that this path is not done alone. Through the paths and trails you will find other people who, like you, are following your path in search of their ideals and dreams. Be generous and help others. Also, let them help you.
